Last weekend me and Annika went to eastern and northern Finland again. We concentrated on Bluetails but we also gave a little effort on Booted Warblers. Weather was nice for the whole Midsummer's celebration weekend so were enjoying nice Bluetail forests during early morning hours and managed to ring some Bluetails of course. Males were not so attractive to recordings anymore as the breeding has progressed and some pairs already have chicks that are about to leave the nest. We had maybe 25 singing males of which 7 we managed to catch. Also one female was caught. Thanks to Teppo Helo for company again!
Other nice observations in forests were 2 Three-toed Woodpecker nests, 2 Greenish Warblers and possible singing Siberian Chiffchaff. The bird was singing and all the time migrating north faster than we were able to run so there was no time enough to get a good recording of it. Too bad, as there is only one accepted record of singing tristis in Finland before.
Booted Warblers were still singing at the same site we visited 2 weeks earlier. Not very eagerly but still enough to make it possible to find them.
