Waxwing P-606065; Finland-Iceland!!!

I have forgotten to put information about this interesting recovery on my blog..

Last October I ringed a 1cy Waxwing at Tankar Bird Observatory in Kokkola, Finland. Just about a month after I received a call from Markus Piha who works for The Finnish Ringing Centre and he told that there has been a Waxwing killed by hitting a window in Iceland and it carried a finnish ring that was known to belong to Tankar B.O. After some calls it was clear that this Waxwing was ringed by me just a month earlier!
The exact recovery place is Ólafsvik and it's located in the very westernmost part of Iceland. It's a long journey for Waxwing, 2193 kilometres in 30 days! And most of the trip of course over the sea.

Waxwing, 1cy male. Not the bird mentioned.
